Special Instructions on Cosmetic Product Labels

Product labeling is not only a key element to a successful brand, it’s also required by entities such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) here in the United States. When marketing cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other products, you cannot skip the important step of carrying the special instructions that these products require.

Here’s what you need

To give you an idea, on any cosmetics product there are three main areas where information must be displayed. On the front of the product, also referred to as the principal display panel, you will find the name of the product and its net weight. On an information panel should be a list of ingredients, the manufacturers’ name and address, and any warning statements that need to be issued about safety concerns. Keep in mind that font requirements are strict and should be attended to carefully. Any drug claims regarding treatment or cures should be stated as well. The last thing you want is for your product to be kept from the shelves for any issue with ingredients or product claims.

Here’s how you do it

The PDP needs to contain the product identity (your professional and awesome business logo) and its net weight. If you are using bottles with a wrap-around label, the ingredient list, manufacturer address, and warning statements can be printed on the same label and will appear on the back of the bottle. On the other hand, if your product containers are not the correct shape for a wrap-around printed sticker label, you may decide to print a separate set of stickers for each side of the container.
